The Child Survival and Development Organisation of Nigeria (CSDON) recently implemented its 'Hope Has No Bars' outreach programme at the Special Correctional Centre for Girls in Idi-Araba, Lagos. This initiative aimed to provide support and encouragement to young inmates, while also donating essential items and educational assistance. The programme reflects CSDON's commitment to uplifting vulnerable women, girls, and children, particularly those in correctional care.

During the outreach, CSDON's Program Manager, Mrs. Robin Oderinde, spoke on behalf of the organisation's Patron, Mrs. Onari Duke. She emphasized that the programme's theme underscores the belief that despite being physically confined, the girls' hopes, dreams, and future possibilities remain limitless. Oderinde encouraged the girls to remember that their current situation does not define who they are or who they will become.

The 'Hope Has No Bars' initiative was designed to remind the girls that they are not forgotten and that society still believes in their potential to rebuild their lives. Oderinde added that physical bars may limit movement, but they cannot stop dreams, purpose, or the greatness that is inside the girls. CSDON's patron, Mrs. Duke, is deeply passionate about initiatives that support and empower the girl child.

CSDON places the welfare and development of women and children at the centre of its programmes, with a key focus area being rehabilitation and advocacy for women and girls in correctional centres. During the visit, the organisation donated several items to the facility, including food items, toiletries, cooking supplies, an industrial fan, and a 43-inch television set to improve the comfort and welfare of the girls.

In addition to the material donations, CSDON announced a number of educational and medical support initiatives for some of the girls in the facility. The organisation will sponsor the cost of an ear aid test and treatment for one of the girls and provide funds to cover lesson teacher fees for three months.

CSDON also offered to pay the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination fees for three girls preparing to sit for the examination. Furthermore, the organisation will consider providing further educational scholarships to the beneficiaries if they perform well in their examinations. This support will enable the girls to pursue their education, whether that leads them to university or other training and professional programmes.

The organisation's intervention goes beyond material assistance, with the goal of inspiring confidence and hope among the girls. By providing educational and medical support, CSDON aims to empower the girls to rebuild their lives and create a brighter future.
