The Comoros taxi driver union, Usukani wa Massiwa, has established a new cell for drivers operating on the Fumbuni-Mtsangadju route. The launch ceremony, held on October 24 at Bandamadji-la-Domba, brought together several drivers and regional officials. The union emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules and improving passenger transport discipline. This move aims to enhance safety and organization in the region's transport sector.

During the ceremony, police commissioner Ibrahim Soilihi stressed the responsibility of drivers in preventing road accidents. He urged the new cell members to strictly follow traffic rules, citing the risks of neglecting safety measures such as wearing seatbelts and using phones while driving. The commissioner highlighted the potential consequences of driver negligence, including loss of life.

Moustoifa Madi Ali, alias Chema, the union's spokesperson, assured that the organization is working diligently to enforce laws across its cells. He called on city officials not to intervene on behalf of drivers who break established rules. Chema requested the mayors of Domba and Dimani to inform the union of any issues involving drivers on this route.

The union's efforts to improve transport safety and discipline include requiring drivers to display the union's autocollant on their windshields. This will facilitate identification of the working area for drivers on this route. Chema emphasized the importance of collaboration between drivers, officials, and the union to achieve their goals.

The newly established cell has been officially recognized by the Usukani wa Massiwa union. The union's secretary-general advised drivers to prioritize customer respect and avoid using tinted windows. He also urged law enforcement to focus on verbal warnings rather than systematic vehicle impoundment.

The introduction of this new cell is expected to contribute to better transport organization and enhanced safety for users on the Fumbuni-Mtsangadju route. By strengthening safety measures and promoting discipline among drivers, the union aims to improve the overall transport experience for passengers.

Key stakeholders, including drivers, officials, and law enforcement, are expected to work together to ensure the success of this initiative. The union's efforts to promote a culture of safety and responsibility among drivers are seen as a positive step towards reducing accidents and improving transport services in Comoros.
