A coalition of six political parties in Nigeria's Benue South Senatorial District has adopted Senator Abba Moro as its candidate for the 2027 senatorial election. The coalition, comprising the Action Peoples Party (APP), Legacy Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Nigeria Rescue Movement (NRM), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), announced its decision in Otukpo, the headquarters of the senatorial district. The parties declared Moro's reelection as "sacrosanct" for the people of Zone C.
Before the joint adoption meeting, the parties had separately deliberated on the 2027 election and agreed to support Moro's return to the National Assembly. The adoption ceremony saw chairmen of some of the parties take turns to endorse the senator, citing his track record of representing the interests of the people of Benue South. They emphasized that Moro's reelection is crucial for the continued development of the zone.
The state chairman of Legacy ADC, Elias Adikwu, expressed the party's support for Moro, stating that they had declared their backing for his candidacy. Adikwu highlighted the senator's achievements and commitment to the people of Benue South. Similarly, the chairman of the Aburi faction of LP in the state, Ibrahim Idoko, noted that his party had thoroughly deliberated on the choice of candidate before backing Moro.
Idoko emphasized that the LP's decision to support Moro was based on his performance and dedication to the people of Zone C. He stressed that Moro's reelection remains "sacrosanct" in the zone. The chairman of ZLP, Simon Ogbe, also spoke at the event, stating that his party arrived at the decision after assessing the candidates in the race. Ogbe noted that Moro's vocal and consistent leadership made him the preferred choice.
Ogbe added that the ZLP would not give room for external influence in the selection of candidates, emphasizing the need for the people of Zone C to have a say in the election. He highlighted Moro's realistic approach to governance and his ability to represent the interests of the Idoma people. The state women leaders of Legacy ADC and ZLP, Ochanya Attah and Sandra Efada, respectively, also pledged their support for Moro's reelection.
Attah and Efada urged the electorate to turn out in large numbers and vote for Moro in the 2027 election. They emphasized the importance of ensuring that the senator continues to represent the interests of the people of Benue South. The coalition stated that the adoption of Moro was only the first step, adding that more political parties and their candidates would soon join the endorsement.
