The city of Casablanca, Morocco, is set to host the 2026 World Fencing Championships for men and women from October 15-18. The event, taking place at the Mohammed V Covered Hall, will bring together the world's top fencers for four days of individual and team competitions. Under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, the Royal Moroccan Fencing Federation is organizing the championships, which will feature fencers from over 90 countries across five continents.

Fencing has a long history in Morocco, dating back to 1919 when the sport was first introduced to the country. The first fencing clubs emerged in Casablanca and Fez in 1922. Morocco made its Olympic debut in 1960 and has since hosted several continental and international competitions. Casablanca previously hosted a World Cup in 2003, the African Championships in 2006, and another World Cup in 2025.

The 2026 World Fencing Championships will feature preliminary rounds for men on October 15 and women on October 16. The individual men's and women's events will take place on October 17, followed by team events on October 18. The championships aim to provide Moroccan fencers with a high-level environment to compete against top athletes from around the world.

The Royal Moroccan Fencing Federation has a dual objective for the championships: to allow the Moroccan public to attend a top-level international competition and to offer national fencers a chance to compete against world-class athletes. The event is part of the federation's efforts to develop fencing in Morocco, train athletes and coaches, and prepare Moroccan fencers for major international events.

The previous World Cup, held in Marrakech in 2025, attracted 256 female and 306 male athletes from 62 countries. The 2026 championships in Casablanca aim to build on this momentum with an expanded international participation. The event will also showcase Morocco as a host country for major international competitions.

Youssef Fathi, president of the Royal Moroccan Fencing Federation, emphasized the importance of hosting the championships in Casablanca. He stated that the event will allow Moroccan fencers to compete at the highest level and inspire young fencers to strive for excellence. The championships will also promote fencing in Morocco and attract new talent to the sport.

The success of the 2026 World Fencing Championships will depend on the collaboration of the federation, institutions, organizing teams, and partners. From October 15-18, 2026, the world's fencing community will focus on Casablanca, with the goal of making the championships a memorable and impactful event in the international fencing calendar.
