Cairo University has taken a significant step in upgrading its healthcare services by inaugurating two state-of-the-art intensive care units at Kasr Al-Aini. The units, one for chest diseases and the other for obstetrics and gynecology, were opened by Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek, President of Cairo University. The project aims to improve the critical care system at Kasr Al-Aini hospitals, enabling them to provide advanced medical services in line with quality and safety standards.
The newly opened units were developed and updated at a total cost of nearly EGP 13 million. The intensive care unit for chest diseases at Manial Qibli hospital was upgraded with the latest medical equipment at a cost of EGP 3.15 million. Meanwhile, the intensive care unit at the obstetrics and gynecology hospital was developed at a cost of EGP 9.83 million, including renovation, construction, equipment, and medical devices.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Dr. Hosam Salah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Kasr Al-Aini and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board of Directors. Dr. Hosam Hosni, Executive Director of University Hospitals, and Dr. Hani Al-Asali and Dr. Amel Al-Sayed, Deputy Executive Directors of University Hospitals, were also present.
During his tour, Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek listened to a detailed explanation of the units' components and the development work carried out on the infrastructure, equipment, and medical systems. He emphasized that the opening of these units represents a significant step forward in improving critical care services at Kasr Al-Aini, enabling the hospital to quickly respond to severe cases and provide a safe and comprehensive treatment environment for patients.
Dr. Abdel Sadek stressed that the development of Kasr Al-Aini hospitals is a top priority for Cairo University, reflecting its social responsibility and commitment to providing advanced healthcare services that prioritize patients' needs. He highlighted that Kasr Al-Aini is a symbol of Egyptian medical history and a model for combining tradition with continuous modernization.
The Cairo University president added that the Kasr Al-Aini hospital system, comprising 22 hospitals and centers, continues to fulfill its mission in treatment, education, training, and scientific research. He attributed the successive developments and improvements to the collective efforts of the university's staff and stakeholders, emphasizing that the hospital's expertise, scientific capabilities, and medical resources enhance its position and open up broader avenues for partnerships with international universities and medical institutions.
Dr. Hosam Salah further explained that the development work included a comprehensive update of the infrastructure, medical systems, and construction in line with modern engineering codes and quality and safety standards. The intensive care unit for obstetrics and gynecology has six fully equipped beds to handle severe cases and pregnancy complications around the clock, aiming to serve 70-80 cases monthly with an occupancy rate of up to 90%.
