The commune of Korsimoro, located in the Koulsé region of Burkina Faso, has been equipped with a new drinking water supply system. This infrastructure, built under the Water and Sanitation Program (PAEA), was inspected on September 21, 2026, by the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture, Water, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Ismaël Sombié. The visit was part of the follow-up to the 2026-2027 agropastoral campaign.
The new system, which aims to improve access to clean water for the local population, consists of two boreholes with a capacity of 15 m³ per hour each, producing a total of 30 m³ per hour. These two facilities are interconnected and supply a water tower that has been completed and is now operational. The distribution network spans 32 kilometers, allowing for better service to different sectors of the commune.
In addition to the production and distribution infrastructure, the project includes 400 free household connections for the local population. Eighteen public fountains have been rehabilitated, and 15 new ones have been built. According to the data presented, the system is designed to meet the needs of approximately 15,000 inhabitants, which is well above the current needs of the commune, estimated at around 5,000 inhabitants.
The projections indicate that this capacity should cover the commune's needs until 2030. Another notable feature of this infrastructure is its energy supply system, which uses a solar installation coupled with lithium batteries. The energy produced during sunny periods is stored to ensure the continuity of the system's operation when solar production decreases or stops.
This setup allows the installation to have an autonomy of up to 15 hours. The excess energy produced is also stored to enhance the regularity of the system's supply. The project has also taken into account the commune's future needs, with four additional boreholes drilled in reserve. Preparatory work for their connection to the network has been completed.
The Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Ismaël Sombié, praised the realization of this infrastructure, which provides a concrete response to the needs of Korsimoro's population. He recalled that access to clean water is a right, not a luxury. The system is expected to significantly improve the living conditions of the local population.
