The 7th edition of "Mois du Consommer Local" was officially launched in Burkina Faso on October 7, 2026, by Minister of Industry, Trade, and Crafts, Serge Poda. The event aims to promote local consumption and economic integration within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). This year's theme is "Consommer local, facteur d'intégration régionale et de souveraineté économique de l'UEMOA face aux mutations du commerce mondial".

The Burkinabè government aims to make local consumption a daily reality for its citizens, stimulating job creation and national wealth generation. Minister Poda emphasized that the country has immense potential and varied talents, which should no longer benefit other economies at the expense of Burkina Faso. He highlighted the country's rich resources, including fertile land, skilled workforce, and innovative youth.

The government has undertaken economic reforms, including the creation of industrial units, revival of certain companies, and establishment of industries. New laws have been enacted to strengthen the right of preference for national products and enterprises. These efforts aim to promote local production and consumption, ultimately achieving economic sovereignty.

Karamoko Traoré, the ceremony's sponsor, stressed that this edition's theme encourages stakeholders to reorganize their consumption habits and enhance production capacities. He emphasized that local consumption must go beyond promotional frameworks to focus on valorizing local talents and production units, enabling the country to be resilient in the face of challenges.

Traoré invited Burkinabè citizens to adopt a strategic choice: consuming locally produced goods and producing what they need. This approach would concretize the vision of endogenous development and make intra-community trade the engine of integration within the UEMOA. He noted that the country's development plans prioritize local product transformation.

The 7th edition of "Mois du Consommer Local" coincides with the 8th edition of the World Cotton Day and the second phase of the 3rd edition of the National Days of Patriotic Engagement and Citizenship. These events demonstrate the government's commitment to promoting local economic development and encouraging citizen participation.

The Burkinabè government remains committed to its vision of promoting local consumption and production. The "Mois du Consommer Local" initiative is a key component of this strategy, aiming to create a cultural shift towards valorizing national products and talents. By doing so, the country hopes to achieve economic sovereignty and integration within the UEMOA.
