Award-winning filmmaker and rapper Big Ghun has teamed up with Betfox Ghana to launch a nationwide road safety campaign, distributing over 3,000 motorcycle helmets to riders across Ghana. The initiative aims to reduce motorcycle-related accidents, which continue to claim lives and devastate families. According to Ghana's Ministry of Transport, 1,345 of 2,949 road fatalities in 2025 involved motorcycle crashes, representing nearly 46% of all road deaths that year.
The situation remains worrying, with 2,151 road crash deaths and 12,230 injuries recorded between January and September 2026, according to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service. For many Ghanaians, motorcycles are a source of livelihood, a way to provide for loved ones, and sometimes the only accessible means of getting around. The campaign seeks to help more riders return home safely to their dependents.
The first phase of the campaign commenced in Ashaiman, where Big Ghun and the Betfox Ghana team paid a courtesy visit to the Ashaiman District Police Commander, DSP Orlando Joseph Adzokpa. During the visit, the team donated protective helmets to the police department to encourage safer motorcycle use and strengthen community road safety awareness. The team then distributed helmets directly to motorcycle riders in Ashaiman.
The initiative extends beyond providing protective equipment, aiming to promote responsible riding, greater awareness of road safety regulations, and consistent helmet use by both riders and passengers. The campaign's goal is to contribute to a culture where road safety becomes a shared responsibility rather than an afterthought. By protecting even one life, the partners hope to preserve an entire family's future.
Although the campaign targets over 3,000 helmets, the partners hope its impact will extend far beyond the numbers. A single road accident can change everything, taking away a family's provider, interrupting a young person's dreams, or leaving loved ones dealing with preventable losses. The initiative believes that protecting lives on Ghana's roads requires a collective effort.
Following its launch in Ashaiman, the team plans to extend the campaign to other communities within Greater Accra and then to additional regions across the country. Big Ghun has pledged to use his social media platforms to announce upcoming locations, allowing motorcycle riders and community members to know when the campaign will reach their neighborhoods. He is also willing to work with partners to extend the initiative beyond its initial distribution target.
The long-term ambition is to inspire greater public consciousness about motorcycle safety and encourage individuals, institutions, and corporate bodies to contribute to protecting lives on Ghana's roads. The campaign is driven by the belief that at the end of every journey, someone is waiting for a loved one to come home, and something as simple as wearing a quality helmet can make all the difference.
