Benadak Herbal Clinic has organized a comprehensive community health screening exercise in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu. The exercise, part of the 2026 Asorgli Te celebrations, was held at the forecourt of the Asorgli Palace and provided healthcare services to hundreds of residents. The screening allowed participants to assess their health status, receive medical advice, and access free screening for various serious health conditions.
The screening exercise, led by Dr. Ben Tutu, Head of the Medical Team at Benadak Herbal Clinic, started with general health assessments. Participants had their vital signs checked, including blood pressure, pulse rate, and body temperature, alongside blood sugar testing. The emphasis on early detection was crucial as some conditions can develop without obvious symptoms in their early stages.
The World Health Organization estimates that about 2.4 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer globally in 2024, with approximately 694,000 deaths recorded. Cervical cancer remains a serious health concern, largely preventable, and is associated with persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV). The exercise examined liver health, an area of concern due to chronic viral hepatitis causing serious liver damage.
The screening also included kidney screening, as chronic kidney disease can progress gradually without obvious symptoms. Dr. Ben Tutu stated that the strong turnout demonstrated the need to take preventive healthcare closer to communities. He emphasized that the initiative was not only about treating existing conditions but also about helping residents identify potential health problems early.
Dr. Tutu urged residents not to wait until they developed serious symptoms before seeking medical care. He stressed the importance of regular health checks in identifying conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, kidney and liver problems, and cancers at an earlier stage. More than 300 people attended the screening, with over 70 elderly women screened for breast and cervical cancer.
Additional participants underwent comprehensive digital medical assessments to determine their general health conditions. Over 30 participants were screened for liver- and kidney-related conditions. Franklin Fiagbor, Health Coordinator for the Ho Central Constituency, commended the turnout, saying it demonstrated that residents were willing to take their health seriously when preventive services were made accessible.
The exercise gave residents the opportunity to take charge of their health and make informed decisions about their well-being. The collaboration between Benadak Herbal Clinic and the Ho Central MP's office was seen as a step in the right direction towards promoting preventive healthcare in the community.
