The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to produce evidence that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is behind the alleged moves to disqualify the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, ahead of the 2027 elections. This challenge was issued by the APC chairman in Kano, Umar Haruna Doguwa, who described the allegations as false and baseless. Doguwa urged Kwankwaso to provide credible evidence to support his claims.

According to Doguwa, the legal action that stalled the inclusion of Gwarzo’s name on the list was instituted by members of the NDC against the party and had nothing to do with the APC, Governor Yusuf or the Kano State Government. The APC dismissed the allegations, stating that they were attempts to divert attention from the internal challenges confronting the NDC. The party also accused Kwankwaso of trying to associate the APC and its candidate, Governor Yusuf, with the matter, which it described as misleading.

The APC further challenged Kwankwaso to substantiate his claims, insisting that the judiciary was an independent arm of government whose proceedings and decisions could not be dictated by the APC or the state governor. The party emphasized that it had no interest in interfering with the electoral process or using state power against political opponents. Every eligible candidate, according to the APC, had a constitutional right to contest the 2027 elections.

The APC reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles and urged political actors to allow relevant institutions to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without politicising disputes arising from internal party disagreements. The party called on the public to disregard attempts to link Governor Yusuf and the party to the legal battle, insisting that they had no direct or indirect involvement in the proceedings concerning Gwarzo’s candidature.

Doguwa’s statement also highlighted that the APC was focused on its own electoral preparations and had no reason to interfere with the internal affairs of other political parties. The party urged Senator Kwankwaso and other political actors to focus on their own party’s challenges rather than attempting to link the APC to their internal issues.

The development is significant as it comes ahead of the 2027 elections, which are expected to be highly competitive. The Kano State chapter of the APC has assured its supporters and the general public that it would continue to operate within the bounds of the law and respect the democratic process.

In conclusion, the Kano APC has challenged Senator Kwankwaso to provide evidence for his claims linking Governor Yusuf to Gwarzo’s ordeal. The party has denied any involvement in the legal battle and reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles. The public has been urged to disregard attempts to link the APC and Governor Yusuf to the proceedings concerning Gwarzo’s candidature.
