Former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has been out of work since leaving Napoli in the summer. He has been linked with a return to the Premier League, with Manchester United a possible destination. Conte has won league titles in England and Italy, making him a attractive option for the struggling Red Devils. Manchester United have had a poor start to the season, with their joint-worst ever start to a Premier League season.
Conte recently spoke at the Festival dello Sport in Trento, where he shared a message saying he would spend the year resting. However, in a wide-ranging interview with The Athletic, he revealed he would consider an in-season job 'if it's worth it'. He admitted that another role in English football would appeal to him. Conte has been widely touted as a future United manager, and his comments have only added fuel to the speculation.
Conte emphasized the importance of having a clear vision and making the right assessments when it comes to spending money at a club. He noted that in England, teams are using large amounts of money, while elsewhere they are still using more modest resources. Conte believes that having a vision is crucial, and that it's not just about having money, but about spending it wisely.
The Italian manager also highlighted the importance of ambition and instilling hope in the fans, players, and directors. He believes that a manager must convey a message that makes everyone believe they can win. Conte added that even a small percentage of effort can make a big difference if it's conveyed in the right way. He emphasized the importance of daily interactions with staff and players to make history by winning.
Conte expressed his desire to go to a club where he can dust off its history and make it shine once more. He wants to work at a club where there's pressure, and where he knows he's not just taking part, but competing to win. Conte's comments have sparked interest in England, with Manchester United and Juventus, his former club, being linked with him.
Manchester United have had a tough start to the season, with only one Premier League win, against Ipswich Town, and a Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Brighton. Manager Michael Carrick has been under pressure, and injuries to key players have made things difficult. Conte's experience and success make him an attractive option to turn the club's fortunes around.
As the season progresses, Conte's future will be closely watched. With his experience and success, he will be a sought-after manager if he decides to return to work. Key points to watch will be whether he takes on a new role, and if so, which club he will choose.
