American actress and refugee rights activist Angelina Jolie has once again brought attention to the situation in the Gaza Strip following the recent conflict. Through a post on her Instagram account, Jolie shared images of Gaza, revealing the extensive damage inflicted upon the Palestinian sector by Israeli forces since October 8. Her efforts aim to shed light on the massive losses incurred by the region.

Jolie utilized Google Earth to showcase the destruction, noting that entire neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble, with homes, schools, universities, hospitals, roads, and water and sewage infrastructure suffering significant damage or complete destruction. According to her, an analysis by the United Nations using satellite imagery found that as of June 16, 2026, 82% of Gaza's buildings had been damaged, with approximately two-thirds destroyed entirely.

The situation in Gaza is dire, with 1.98 million people, or 94% of the population, in need of shelter and basic supplies as winter approaches. However, humanitarian aid and shelter materials continue to face restrictions and delays in reaching those in need. Jolie emphasized that while Google Earth can illustrate the physical devastation, it cannot convey the reality of living amidst such destruction or the impact on families who have lost loved ones.

Jolie stressed the urgent need for shelter before winter sets in, highlighting the importance of delivering aid and medical supplies to hospitals. Her previous visit to the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing with Gaza in early January provided her with firsthand insight into the conditions faced by Palestinian casualties transported to Egypt and the efforts to deliver aid to the sector.

Despite an agreement to cease fire between Israeli forces and Palestinian factions in October 2025, Israeli forces have continued to target the Gaza Strip, claiming to aim at individuals affiliated with various Palestinian factions. This ongoing violation of the ceasefire agreement exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in the region.

The destruction in Gaza has left the population struggling to cope with the aftermath of the conflict. With the help of international organizations, efforts are being made to provide assistance to those affected. However, the scale of the devastation and the needs of the population require a concerted and sustained response from the international community.

Jolie's advocacy for the people of Gaza underscores the critical need for immediate and sustained support to address the humanitarian crisis. Her use of social media and collaboration with international organizations bring attention to the plight of those in Gaza, urging for rapid aid delivery before the onset of winter.
