The Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade, has commended the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, for his intervention in the beautification of the palace of the Deji of Akure Kingdom. This project aims to conserve the cultural heritage of the people. The monarch described the minister's gesture as historic during the inauguration of the redesigned palace entrance on Saturday.
The intervention by the Minister of Youth Development formed a significant part of the ongoing efforts of the kingdom to give the palace a facelift. The project included the redesign of the entrance to the historic palace for the preservation of the cultural heritage. Oba Aladetoyinbo stated that the project was a significant gesture towards preserving the cultural heritage of Akure Kingdom and giving the historic palace an outlook befitting its status.

He expressed appreciation to the minister for identifying with Akure's traditional institution and supporting a project that had tremendously enhanced the appearance of the palace. The Deji of Akure Kingdom also appealed to other indigenes of the kingdom, public officials, and corporate organizations to support initiatives aimed at preserving the city's historical and cultural assets.
According to Oba Aladetoyinbo, palace and cultural heritage conservation should be seen as a collective responsibility, especially as modern development is redesigning the kingdom. He disclosed that there are other sections of the palace that still need intervention for conservation and promotion of Akure's cultural heritage. The monarch described Olawande's gesture as a typical example of how individuals and public officials could contribute to their communities by supporting projects aimed at conserving history, culture, and identity of the people.

In 1990, the Federal Government declared the palace a national historical monument due to its symbolic importance, harbouring generations of Dejis, historical relics, architectural designs, and cultural significance. The minister's intervention aimed to give this historic institution an environment that reflects its importance while retaining its cultural character.
