The Airbus A350F freighter, the first of two test aircraft, has successfully completed its maiden flight. The aircraft, registered as MSN 700, flew for 4 hours and 10 minutes, reaching an altitude of 25,000 feet. A dedicated Airbus Flight Test crew was at the controls during the flight. This inaugural flight marks the beginning of an over 9-month flight test campaign.

The A350F freighter is a new development based on Airbus' highly successful A350 platform. According to Lars Wagner, CEO Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, the A350F is a game-changer for the air cargo market, offering unmatched operational flexibility, fuel efficiency, and range. The aircraft is designed to meet the evolving demands of the global air freight market.

The A350F freighter boasts a range capability of up to 8,700 kilometres and a payload of up to 111 tonnes, making it suitable for international long-haul routes. The aircraft is made of over 70 per cent advanced materials, resulting in a 46-tonne lighter maximum take-off weight compared to competitor aircraft. This reduction in weight, combined with the latest Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, will bring a reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions of up to 40 per cent.

During the maiden flight, the crew carried out tests focused on verifying the basic airworthiness, fundamental flying qualities, and ensuring basic systems perform as predicted. The second A350F prototype, MSN 701, is currently at an advanced stage of final assembly and will enter the paint shop in the coming weeks. The A350F has already recorded 115 orders from 14 disclosed customers.

The A350F freighter has captured up to 59 per cent market share in the large freighter category. It is the first new freighter to fully meet the latest ICAO's CO2 emission standards. With its advanced materials and engines, the A350F is set to revolutionize the air cargo market.

The successful completion of the maiden flight is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Airbus teams involved in the project. The A350F freighter is expected to bring significant benefits to the air cargo market, including reduced fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

The A350F freighter is set to enter commercial service in the near future, with a flight test campaign spanning over 9 months. The aircraft's performance and capabilities make it an attractive option for airlines and cargo operators looking to modernize their fleets and reduce their environmental impact.
