Stakeholders from Abia North, under the Alliance for Good Governance, have expressed their commitment to supporting and sustaining the good governance model of Governor Alex Otti beyond 2031 as he seeks re-election. The group, led by Prof Mkpa Mkpa, a former Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University, emphasized their interest in ensuring the continuation of good governance in the state. According to Mkpa, the state has never experienced good governance like that championed by Otti.
The Alliance for Good Governance presented a communique at the Isieke Civic Centre, Ugwueke, in the Bende Local Government Area of Abia state, on Saturday. The communique highlighted the group's resolve to support Otti's re-election bid and ensure that good governance transcends 2031. The stakeholders also emphasized that the next generation of Abia leaders will continue to implement the templates initiated by the Otti-led administration.
The group called for collective efforts to actualize Otti's second-term bid through voter education, particularly among the grassroots and youth. They urged voters not to succumb to pressure or inducement from opposition parties. Mkpa emphasized that the group is non-partisan and consists of elders from Abia North who want to ensure that the state's good governance model continues.
The stakeholders resolved to embark on massive voter education, particularly among the less literate and youth. They also agreed to mobilize their structures ahead of the forthcoming general elections. According to Mkpa, if anyone offers them money, they should collect it but vote for Alex Otti and his lineup at the right time.
Other speakers at the meeting, including Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah, a former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, and Urum Eke, a renowned economist and banker, emphasized that Abians will no longer tolerate mediocrity in positions of trust. They noted that Otti's achievements have introduced sanity into governance.
The convener of the Alliance for Good Governance, Ebueme Ezikpe, and the meeting host, Johnson Chukwu, explained that the platform brings together opinion leaders and influential individuals to shape the direction of governance in Abia state. They highlighted Otti's achievements and the need for continued good governance in the state.
The stakeholders' move to support Otti's re-election bid reflects their confidence in his leadership and commitment to good governance. With the 2027 elections approaching, the Alliance for Good Governance is poised to play a significant role in mobilizing support for Otti and shaping the future of Abia state.
