The Malian Shou Bo Federation (FMSB) recently concluded its 7th annual Shou Bo Vacances program, which saw 600 young participants learn the discipline of Shou Bo, a martial art that emphasizes evasion and hand-to-hand combat. The program went beyond physical training, focusing on essential life skills such as sanitation, reforestation, road safety, and first aid. This approach reflects the FMSB's commitment to education and character development.
The closing ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including FMSB President Dramane Sangaré, Mamadou Lamine Diarra, representing the National Sports and Physical Education Directorate (DNSEP), and Oumar Ibrahima Touré, Honorary President of the FMSB. The event also featured a demonstration of Tao and evasion techniques, as well as the awarding of prizes to outstanding participants. Mamoutou Koné, the champion of the 7th edition, received the trophy and citizenship flag from Touré and Sangaré.
The program's philosophy is built around three levels of learning: "charge du taureau" (self-control in the face of provocation), "esquive et contrôle" (peaceful conflict resolution), and "xiang bo" (emphasizing national unity and coexistence). According to Sangaré, this approach embodies the spirit of Shou Bo, which emphasizes wisdom, responsibility, and balance between opposing forces.
The FMSB plans to expand its reach in the future, aiming to train 1,000 children and distribute 1,000 school kits in the next edition. This initiative is part of the federation's broader commitment to education and citizenship in Mali. The program's success was acknowledged by Mamadou Lamine Diarra, who praised the quality of the organization on behalf of the Sports Department.
Oumar Ibrahima Touré, the program's patron and former Health Minister, emphasized the importance of self-control and respect for others in the practice of Shou Bo. He noted that true strength lies not in physical power, but in the ability to exercise restraint and wisdom. The ceremony also recognized the contributions of various individuals and organizations that have supported the development of Shou Bo in Mali.
The event featured the distribution of school kits, diplomas, and certificates of merit to participants and supporters. The FMSB expressed gratitude to its partners, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and paid tribute to Maître Yuan Zumou, the founder of modern Shou Bo. The federation's commitment to promoting education and citizenship through sports was reiterated during the ceremony.
