A chieftain of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Oluwaseun Adelore, has expressed optimism that opposition leaders in Nigeria can still put aside their differences and unite behind a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. Speaking on ARISE News, Adelore dismissed suggestions that efforts to form an opposition coalition had collapsed due to the ambitions of major political figures.
Adelore described the 2027 general election as a marathon race, rather than a sprint, saying opposition parties still have several months to negotiate and reach an agreement. He noted that the political process should not be viewed as a short-term endeavor, but rather as a long-term strategy that requires patience, dialogue, and cooperation among opposition leaders.
According to Adelore, opposition leaders can use the coming months to find common ground and develop a strategy for the election. He mentioned that October and November provide opportunities for opposition leaders to come together and make progress towards a unified platform.
Adelore acknowledged that the personal ambitions of prominent opposition figures could complicate efforts to establish a unified political platform.
