French football legend Zinédine Zidane has come to the defense of Cristiano Ronaldo, his former star player at Real Madrid. In a press conference on October 4, Zidane expressed his admiration for Ronaldo, highlighting their successful partnership that yielded numerous titles. Zidane and Ronaldo won nine trophies together, including three consecutive Champions League titles. Zidane's comments have been seen as a show of support for the Portuguese superstar.
Zidane and Ronaldo enjoyed a highly successful stint together at Real Madrid from 2016 to 2018. During this period, they won several prestigious titles, including one La Liga title, two Club World Cups, two UEFA Super Cups, and one Spanish Super Cup. Zidane recalled his time with Ronaldo, saying he has always had great respect for those he has worked with. Ronaldo, in turn, had expressed his gratitude to Zidane, stating that he felt proud to have been his player.
Zidane's comments come at a time of turmoil within the Portuguese national team. Ronaldo recently found himself at odds with the team's coach, Jorge Jesus, who left him on the bench during a match against Norway. Jesus then announced that Ronaldo would not be a starter in the team's next match against Denmark. In response, Ronaldo announced that he would be leaving the national team's training camp. Jesus initially denied any incident but later praised Ronaldo as a symbol of the Portuguese team.
The situation surrounding Ronaldo's international career remains uncertain. Reports have emerged that Ronaldo may be considering retirement from international football, although this has not been confirmed. Some media outlets have suggested that Ronaldo may be leaving Europe to focus on his club career with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Jesus has refused to comment on the matter, fueling speculation about Ronaldo's future.
Zidane's defense of Ronaldo has been seen as a timely show of support. The French coach's comments have highlighted the significant contributions Ronaldo made to their team's success during their time together at Real Madrid. Zidane's praise for Ronaldo has been interpreted as a nod to the player's achievements and a reminder of their fruitful partnership.
The Portuguese national team's crisis has raised concerns about Ronaldo's future with the team. With 234 caps and 146 goals, Ronaldo is a highly experienced and accomplished player. His potential departure would be a significant blow to the team, particularly given his leadership role. The situation remains fluid, with no clear resolution in sight.
As the situation continues to unfold, fans and pundits alike will be watching closely to see how it develops. One thing is certain: Zidane's comments have added a new layer of complexity to the story. The football world will be eager to see how Ronaldo's situation is resolved and what the future holds for the Portuguese superstar.
