Yemen's Foreign Ministry and Expatriates Affairs has strongly condemned the attack by Houthi militias on Aden International Airport early on Wednesday, October 7. The attack involved ballistic missiles and explosive drones, which coincided with a civilian flight approaching the airport, putting the lives of passengers, crew members, and airport staff at direct risk.
The Yemeni Foreign Ministry held the Houthi militias fully responsible for the attack and its consequences, emphasizing that targeting this civilian facility, which serves Yemenis from various governorates, represents a serious escalation and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and civil aviation protection rules.
The Ministry stressed that the attack consolidates the terrorist approach that was evident in the bombing of Aden airport, attacks on Saudi airports, and previous disruptions to flights through Sana'a airport, as well as the detention of four Yemenia Airlines planes. This approach uses the intimidation of civilians and their suffering as a means of blackmail and disabling state institutions.
The Yemeni Foreign Ministry praised the measures taken by the competent authorities to secure the airport and protect passengers and air crews, stating that targeting civilian institutions will not deter the state from protecting its citizens, facilities, and ensuring the safety of air navigation and the right to safe mobility.
The Ministry warned that the attack threatens the safety of international and regional civil aviation, calling on the UN Security Council and the international community to condemn it and take practical measures to prevent its recurrence, and to hold those who planned, ordered, or participated in its implementation accountable according to international law.
The Yemeni Foreign Ministry also called on the International Civil Aviation Organization and relevant organizations to condemn the attack and enhance measures to protect airports and civil aviation. The Ministry emphasized that ending the coup, restoring state institutions, and disarming militias are conditions for protecting civilians and preserving Yemen's security and its neighborhood.
The Ministry urged the international community to support the Republic of Yemen in establishing its sovereignty over its entire national territory and backing its sovereign right to confine arms to its legitimate institutions, which preserves Yemen's unity, security, and stability, and enhances the security of its neighborhood and the safety of regional and international air navigation.
