The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has been recognized with the 2026 Pillar of Integrity in Public Service Award. This prestigious award was given in acknowledgment of the Corporation's exemplary commitment to ethics, transparency, and accountability in public service. The award ceremony, organized by Verbatim Print & Broadcast Limited in partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), took place in Abuja.
The award was presented to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the NDIC, Mr. Thompson Oludare Sunday, who was represented by the Head of Communication and Public Affairs, Ms. Hawwau Gambo. According to Ms. Gambo, the NDIC earned this recognition following its emergence as second overall in the 2025 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS) of the ICPC. The EICS is an integrity-assessment framework developed to promote ethical standards, accountability, and anti-corruption practices in the public service.
The ICPC's EICS evaluates Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government of Nigeria across four key areas: Management Culture and Structure; Financial Management System; Administrative Systems; and Anti-Corruption Initiatives. The NDIC's achievement in the EICS reflects its sustained efforts to maintain the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and ethical governance in the discharge of its mandates.
The Chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, who was represented by the Director, Systems Study and Review Department (SSRD), Mr. Olusegun Adigun, delivered a keynote address at the ceremony. The address, titled "The Power of Integrity in National Development: Strengthening Public Institutions, Restoring Trust and Driving Prosperity," underscored the importance of integrity in public service.
Ms. Hawwau Gambo, receiving the award on behalf of the NDIC, commended Verbatim Print & Broadcast Limited for recognizing the Corporation's performance based on the ICPC's independently validated integrity scorecard. She reaffirmed the Corporation's commitment to sustaining the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and ethical governance.
The award serves as both an affirmation of the NDIC's achievements and an impetus to further deepen compliance with the highest standards of professionalism, excellence, and public trust. As the NDIC continues to protect depositors, engender confidence in the banking sector, and contribute to financial system stability, this recognition is a testament to its dedication to these goals.
The NDIC's Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mr. Thompson O. Sunday, and Ms. Gambo emphasized that the award reflects the Corporation's sustained efforts to maintaining stakeholder confidence in the discharge of its mandates. The NDIC's commitment to these values is crucial as it continues to play a vital role in Nigeria's financial sector.
