Young Africans (Yanga) and Simba SC, mainland Premier League champions, have been drawn against established African clubs in the 2026/2027 Caf Champions League group stage. The draw took place in Cairo, Egypt, on October 28, 2026. Yanga are in Group B with Egyptian giants Zamalek SC, Algeria's MC Alger, and Tunisia's Club Africain. Simba SC will compete in Group C against Morocco's RS Berkane, South Africa's Orlando Pirates, and Cameroon's Colombe Sportive.

Yanga's Group B assignment presents a significant challenge, with opponents having rich continental histories. Zamalek SC are five-time African champions and will make their 14th group-stage appearance. MC Alger won the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1976 and will make their sixth group-stage appearance in the modern Champions League era. Club Africain add further North African strength, having won the continental title in 1991 and returning to the group stage for the first time since 2018/19.

Yanga have demonstrated their capacity to compete at this level, reaching the quarter-finals in 2024/25 and securing qualification with an 8-1 aggregate victory over Madagascar's CFFA. They won the return leg 4-1 after a 4-0 first-leg triumph. This performance shows that Yanga can compete with top African clubs.

Simba SC's Group C assignment is equally demanding, with RS Berkane and Orlando Pirates posing significant threats. RS Berkane have emerged as a major force in African football, winning the Confederation Cup three times. Orlando Pirates bring considerable experience, having won the Champions League in 1995 and reached the final in 2013.

Colombe Sportive, the Cameroonian champions, will make their group-stage debut after winning consecutive domestic league titles in 2024/2025 and 2025/2026. Simba SC have established themselves as regular participants in continental competitions and will make their seventh Champions League group-stage appearance.

Simba SC qualified for this campaign in emphatic fashion, crushing Equatorial Guinea's 15 de Agosto 9-1 on aggregate after a 6-1 away victory and a 3-0 home win. Their record includes four quarter-final appearances in 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2022/2023, and 2023/2024.

The group stage begins in November, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the quarter-finals. For Tanzania, the objective is now clear: turn successful qualification campaigns into progress against Africa's established powers. Both clubs have the attacking quality to compete, but their ability to collect points away from home could ultimately determine their continental fortunes.
