Yako Bank (U) Limited, a Credit Institution licensed by the Bank of Uganda in 2020, is seeking a Senior Compliance Officer to join its team in Kampala. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and reporting on compliance risks across the bank's current and proposed business activities. This role is crucial in ensuring the bank's adherence to applicable laws, Bank of Uganda regulations, and internal policies. Yako Bank was incorporated in 2010 and started operations as a deposit-taking institution in 2015.

The Senior Compliance Officer will play a key role in supporting the bank's business objectives while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The job entails coordinating and overseeing the activities of the Compliance Officer, Monitoring, and performing other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate should have a thorough understanding of the financial services sector, regulatory framework, and bank policies and procedures. A professional qualification in Governance, Compliance, and Conduct, AML/CFT, Financial Crime Risk, and Regulation, or Fraud Examination is an added advantage.

To qualify for the role, candidates should have a Honours Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field from a recognized university. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar or related role in Compliance, Financial Crime, Auditing, Fraud, and Investigations, preferably in a busy commercial banking environment, is required. The successful candidate should possess good analytical skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen, communicate, and train.

The Senior Compliance Officer's key duties include identifying and assessing compliance risks associated with the bank's current and proposed future business activities. They will also develop and implement policies, systems, mechanisms, and procedures to enable staff to report any failed controls or violations of laid-down policies and procedures. Additionally, the role involves monitoring compliance with internal policies, procedures, and guidelines by performing regular and comprehensive compliance risk assessments and testing.
