Entrepreneur and Founder of YBI Group, Yahaya Buhari Ali, recently delivered a keynote address at the 5th edition of World Entrepreneurs Day Zazzau, held in Zaria, Kaduna State, on October 3, 2026. In his presentation, Ali emphasized the importance of combining ambition with structure, clarity, and long-term thinking when turning business ideas into sustainable enterprises. He drew from his entrepreneurial experience to discuss the realities founders face when transforming ideas into organizations.
Ali's message centered on beginning with the end in mind, encouraging participants to develop a clear picture of what they want their businesses to become. He advised entrepreneurs not to define their ventures solely by starting a business or generating immediate income. Instead, they should focus on building a sustainable organization. Ali also highlighted the distinction between working in a business and working on a business, stressing that entrepreneurs must gradually shift their focus from daily execution to strategy, people, processes, and systems as their businesses grow.
To help entrepreneurs think about the organization that must exist around their business idea, Ali shared his 5 R’s framework — Roles, Responsibilities, Rewards, Right People, and Right Seats. This framework challenges founders to consider the roles their businesses will require, the responsibilities of each person, how performance will be rewarded, who the right people are, and whether they are in positions suited to their strengths.
The 5th World Entrepreneurs Day Zazzau featured a business pitching session, providing participants with an opportunity to present and articulate their business ideas. The session offered a practical dimension to the discussions, allowing participants to engage with each other's business propositions. Ali's presentation was his second entrepreneurship speaking engagement of the day, following his participation at the 3rd Young Entrepreneurs Summit Kaduna.
The theme of the 3rd Young Entrepreneurs Summit Kaduna was “Cigaba (Continuation): Building Businesses That Last.” Despite addressing different audiences, Ali's consistent message emphasized that entrepreneurs should consider not only whether their businesses can make money today but also whether they are building the people, structure, and systems required for those businesses to remain valuable tomorrow.
According to Ali, building sustainable African businesses requires a shift in thinking. The goal should be to build an organization capable of becoming bigger than the person who started it. This involves moving progressively from ideas to execution and from execution to institution-building.
The event brought together entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners for discussions around entrepreneurship. Ali's insights and the business pitching session provided valuable lessons and networking opportunities for participants.
