Willows Cricket Club won a high-scoring encounter against Rainbows by 21 runs at the Station Hill Sports Ground on Sunday. The match saw over 500 runs scored between the two sides. Willows, who won the toss, elected to bat first. Young openers Keagan Jattiem and Edrich Pieter George laid a solid foundation with a 50-run partnership. Jattiem scored 34 and George added 20 runs.

The Rainbows bowlers performed impressively during the middle stages, applying pressure and forcing the Willows batsmen to work hard for their runs. Willows' captain Seviano Jasson and Romario Fritz consolidated the innings, sharing a valuable partnership. Fritz scored 22 before Jasson and Sohail Rai increased the tempo with an aggressive approach. Rai and Jasson combined for a quick-fire half-century partnership, putting Willows in a strong position.

Sohail Rai eventually fell for 39, including one four and two sixes, while Jasson top-scored with a sublime 63, featuring four fours and two sixes. Bradley Christian contributed 16 and Ethan Bokbaard added 17 in the closing stages. Willows finished their 50 overs on 257/9. Asemahle Mbali was the pick of the Rainbows bowlers, taking 3/62 in his 10 overs.

Rainbows' bowlers received good support from Buhle Nkwinti, who returned 2/35 in 10 overs, and captain Thandoxolo Shotana, who delivered an economical spell of 1/16 from his 10 overs. Rainbows also conceded 31 extras, which proved costly. In response, Rainbows needed a determined batting effort to chase down Willows' target. Ethan Bokbaard gave Willows the perfect start, trapping Zee Jayi leg before wicket for a duck.

Positive contributions from Roy Mwalo, who scored 35, and Siya Boko, who added 30, gave Rainbows hope. However, the introduction of former South African Proteas player Mfuneko Ngam changed the complexion of the contest. Ngam batted aggressively and made the most of his opportunities after being dropped three times. He scored 61, featuring five fours and three sixes.

Ngam and Sipho Saki put the Willows bowlers under pressure, finding boundaries regularly and taking advantage of inconsistent bowling and lapses in the field. Saki contributed 23 towards the end, as the pair shared a half-century partnership that threatened to take the game away from Willows. Willows bowlers conceded 60 extras, giving Rainbows further encouragement.

Edrich George stood out with an excellent bowling performance, taking 4/40 in his 10 overs. Bokbaard also played a crucial role, taking 3/50 in 10 overs, while Christiano Jasson claimed 2/41 in 9.4 overs. Despite a spirited fightback, Rainbows were bowled out for 236 in 49.4 overs, falling 21 runs short of the target.
