The Société nationale d’exploitation et de distribution des eaux (SONEDE) has announced that several regions in Tunisia will experience disruptions and cuts in their water supply for 36 hours, starting from Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The affected areas include parts of the delegations of La Marsa, Le Kram, La Goulette, and La Soukra. The disruptions are necessary for the relocation and connection of a major distribution pipeline with a diameter of 1,000 mm.

The pipeline relocation work is part of a project aimed at protecting the La Marsa area from flooding and covering the evacuation canal of the Oued Ettabak. The work, supervised by the Direction de l’hydraulique urbaine du ministère de l’Équipement et de l’Habitat, will begin on Tuesday, October 6, at 1:00 AM. The zones that will be affected by the disruptions include La Marsa: cité Bou Selsela, Borj El Ouki, cité Ettabak, cité El Hkam, Sidi Daoud, and Bhar Lazreg.

In addition to La Marsa, other regions that will experience water supply disruptions include Le Kram: Kram Ouest, Jardins de Carthage, Aïn Zaghouan Nord, and Aïn Zaghouan Sud. La Goulette will also be affected, specifically Les Berges du Lac 2, cité Taïeb Mhiri, cité El Wahat, cité Essalama, and L’Aouina. Furthermore, La Soukra’s Dar Fadhal area will experience disruptions. The water supply is expected to resume progressively from 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

To mitigate the effects of the disruptions, SONEDE’s technical teams will be working on-site to complete the work as quickly as possible and restore the water supply to its normal rhythm. The company is urging citizens and establishments to take necessary precautions and stock up on sufficient water reserves to meet their essential needs during the disruption period.

In case of need, SONEDE has mobilized five tanker trucks with a capacity of 10 cubic meters each to supply sensitive establishments such as schools, high schools, and health facilities. These trucks can intervene quickly to ensure that these establishments have access to water during the disruptions.

According to recent statistics, a significant number of Tunisians still lack access to clean water. A report by the FTDES indicates that approximately 200,000 Tunisians do not have access to potable water. SONEDE’s efforts aim to improve the water supply infrastructure and ensure that all citizens have access to this essential resource.

The water supply disruptions are a temporary measure to allow for necessary infrastructure work to be carried out. SONEDE is working to minimize the impact on citizens and ensure that the water supply is restored as quickly as possible. The company’s efforts are crucial in maintaining the health and well-being of the population.
