Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has called on Mt. Kenya residents to promote peaceful and respectful politics during the 2027 election campaigns. Speaking at the funeral of Mzee Joseph Nduati Kamachu, father to Nominated Senator Veronica Maina, Waiguru emphasized the importance of conducting politics with dignity and respect. She stated that political competition is healthy only when it is conducted with respect and that leaders should be allowed to campaign and sell their agenda without intimidation.

Waiguru cautioned residents against being swayed by political parties' wave to vote for candidates who have no development track record. She urged voters to focus on individual leaders' records and make informed choices based on what they have delivered. According to Waiguru, politics of violence, insults, and physical confrontation have no place in a democratic country like Kenya.

Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Alice Wahome echoed Waiguru's message, asking residents to evaluate leaders based on their performance. Wahome pointed out that the current government's achievements can be accounted for, citing examples such as road construction and teacher employment. She urged voters not to be hoodwinked into voting along party lines.

Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence beyond the 2027 elections. She praised the maturity shown by Murang'a residents and encouraged them to continue engaging in politics with mutual respect. Mbarire noted that neighbors must still live together after the elections, and that politics should not disrupt community relationships.

Kiambu County Woman Representative Anne Wamuratha stressed the importance of allowing leaders to present their agendas and engaging in respectful discourse. She urged voters to reject intolerant behavior, such as heckling, and instead promote a culture of tolerance and amicable discussion. Wamuratha emphasized that democracy should allow for competition and the exchange of different views.

The event was attended by several other leaders, including Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, Murang'a County Woman Representative Betty Maina, and Nyeri County Woman Representative Rahab Mukami. They joined Waiguru, Wahome, and Mbarire in promoting peaceful and issue-based politics.

The leaders' messages come ahead of the 2027 elections, which are expected to be highly competitive. The Mt. Kenya region is a significant voting bloc, and the leaders' efforts to promote peaceful and respectful politics are seen as crucial in shaping the region's electoral outcomes.
