The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the appointment of Suleiman Kum as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office. Kum, 56, previously served as Deputy Registrar in the HNO's office and Senior Deputy Registrar, Test Administration. He joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II and has extensive experience in test development, administration, and security. Kum's appointment was announced by WAEC Nigeria's Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina.
Kum has a proven track record of innovation and leadership, having pioneered several initiatives, including Variable Data Printing and enhanced code-security features in security printing. He also led the introduction of facial-recognition biometric devices and seamless delivery of Achievement Tests using Computer-Based Examination mode. Adesina described Kum as a seasoned test developer, administrator, and executive with a strong commitment to service. Kum succeeds Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure as Head of the Nigeria National Office expired on October 1, 2026. Dangut has since assumed office as Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of WAEC. Kum, who hails from Plateau State, holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria and is currently pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at NOUN.
Throughout his career, Kum has served in various key operational capacities, including Assistant Registrar II/Head, Exams Security, in Awka, Yola, and Makurdi. He has also served as Senior Assistant Registrar I/Branch Controller, Gusau; Principal Assistant Registrar/Branch Controller, Kano; and Deputy Registrar/Head, Security Printing Department. Kum's experience spans test development, test administration, examination security, and branch and zonal office management.

His leadership across various portfolios has earned him numerous accolades within the Council and beyond.
