The Regional Tourism Delegate for Tozeur Governorate, Adel Sbeita, announced that several interventions have been carried out in recent times to prepare for the winter tourist season. These interventions were implemented in partnership with concerned security agencies, civil protection, the Regional Health Safety Authority for Food Products, and the Regional Health Administration. The interventions included inspection campaigns at tourist accommodation facilities, tourist activity centers, and restaurants.
The inspection campaigns also covered tourist trails and black spots in areas surrounding tourist sites, such as Chebika, Temghza, and Shott El Jerid. These efforts aimed to ensure the quality and safety of tourist services. Since last August, several initiatives have been undertaken by civil society to clean cities, oases, and wadi courses in old oases in the cities of Nefta and Tozeur.
In addition to the initiatives by civil society, tourist municipalities, including Tozeur, Nefta, and Temghza, have undertaken interventions to care for the tourist environment. These interventions included increasing waste collection, beautifying tourist areas by installing sculptures, and improving green spaces. The Regional Tourism Delegation supported these interventions by monitoring projects implemented by the Tourism Areas Protection Fund.
One of the notable projects supported by the fund is the development and maintenance of the Al-Ank site, which was completed in its first phase several months ago. A second phase is being prepared, with joint funding from the fund and the Tozeur Governorate Council. The second phase will see extensive intervention in the entire site, including expanding health units and creating a parking area for various vehicles.
The site's protection from sand encroachment and the development of shops for traditional industry traders are also planned. The tourist season is expected to kick off with several cultural and sports events, which will attract a significant number of visitors to the region. One of the main events is the 10th edition of the "Ultra Mirage El Jerid" marathon and the rally.
The International Balloon Festival and other international festivals that take place in the region at the end of the year are also expected to draw large crowds. Additionally, the second edition of the Oasis and Desert Tourism Salon is scheduled to take place. The Tozeur-Paris international air route is set to resume on October 4, which is expected to contribute to the success of the new tourist season.
The resumption of the air route will provide better connectivity to the region and potentially surpass the number of tourists recorded during the same period last year. The authorities' efforts aim to promote tourism in the region and provide a pleasant experience for visitors. With these interventions, Tozeur is poised to welcome tourists and offer them a unique experience.
