Several initiatives have improved the living conditions of producers and reduced post-harvest losses in various agricultural sectors in Cameroon. The Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (PD-CVA) recently concluded with numerous achievements. Launched in 2023, the project had 242,000 direct beneficiaries structured into cooperatives and professional organization networks across three value chains: plantain, pineapple, and oil palm.
The PD-CVA project, funded to the tune of 37.1 billion FCFA, also had one million indirect beneficiaries identified in the concerned rural areas. According to the project's coordinator, Dr. Besong Ntui Ogock, the incomes of producers have increased to an average of 818,000 FCFA per year per household. Young entrepreneurs have seen their earnings rise to over six million FCFA per year.
The increase in producer incomes is correlated with the growth in production volumes across various sectors. Another project, the Irrigated and Rainfed Rice Cultivation Development Project (Proderip-RCV), funded to the tune of 122.6 billion FCFA, aims to boost national rice production and improve food security. In December 2025, the project reported that hundreds of producers had been trained in production and post-harvest techniques and received quality seeds.
The Proderip-RCV project also led to the development of model irrigation parcels. Furthermore, the Viva-Benoué project, which aims to enhance agricultural productivity in the North and Far North regions, plans to allocate 5,000 hectares of developed parcels to producers in 2026. By the end of 2025, the project had selected 300 business plans, of which 200 were being financed.
The Viva-Benoué project aims to pre-finance 500 business plans this year and reach 800 by the end of the year. These projects have positively impacted the lives of producers, and their effects will be monitored in the coming years. The improvement in producer incomes and production volumes is a significant step towards achieving food security and sustainable agriculture in Cameroon.
