LASK winger Moses Usor made an immediate impact after coming off the bench to score Nigeria’s winning goal in their 2-1 victory over Madagascar in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo on Friday. The 24-year-old was introduced alongside Moses Simon in the second half and revealed that the experienced winger encouraged him to remain confident and play his natural game. Usor's impressive start to the Austrian Bundesliga season with LASK had earned him his maiden invitation to the Super Eagles.
Usor indeed produced one of the defining moments of the match when he embarked on a solo run before beating two defenders and finding the bottom corner with a left-footed finish. The goal completed his memorable introduction to international football and gave Nigeria a winning start to their AFCON qualifying campaign. He described scoring on his debut as a dream, while also revealing the significance of having his family in the stands.
“I was warming up with Moses Simon, so when they called me, because we went in together, he was telling me: ‘Just play your game and be yourself. If you have the ball and you want to go one on one, take the risk’,” Usor said. He added that Simon gave him the mentality to take risks, which is a crucial aspect of football. Usor took that mentality and went on to play his game.
The winger also spoke about the experience of sharing the Super Eagles camp with established players, including Ademola Lookman, Ola Aina, and Calvin Bassey. “It’s a different feeling playing alongside Lookman, Ola, Bassey. It’s a great feeling,” Usor added. He expressed his excitement about playing with top-notch players.
Usor’s impressive start to the Austrian Bundesliga season with LASK had registered three goals and five assists in 12 matches. Having made a dream start to his international career, Usor is now looking to contribute further as Nigeria continues their AFCON qualifying campaign. He wants to give his best whenever he is on the pitch and add to the attacking force.
“I want to give my best whenever I am on the pitch and add to the attacking force. I know Nigerians will be expecting much from me. I have to give my best,” he said. Usor will hope for another appearance when the Super Eagles face Guinea-Bissau in their second Group L qualifier at the Estádio 24 de Setembro today.

This is a dream because playing at this level, I think it’s a big dream. After every goal, I have to go down on my knees to pray. I thank God for it,” he said.
