Unilever Egypt has launched a new Sunsilk production line at its Mashreq Personal Care (MPC) Factory in 6th of October City, boosting the site's annual production capacity by 20%. This expansion, coinciding with the factory's 20th year of operations in Egypt, is dedicated to exporting products regionally and internationally. The new line features advanced liquid bottling technology for precise mass and volume control.
The inauguration was attended by high-ranking officials, including Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid, Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem, and Giza Governor Ahmed El Ansary. Unilever executives present included Cem Tarık Yüksel, CEO for North Africa, Levant, and Iraq; Sameh Sabry, director of supply chain for the same region; and Suzanne Hassanein, head of corporate affairs for North Africa, Levant, and Iraq.
Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid emphasized that Unilever's decision to invest in Egypt's production for export demonstrates the potential of the country's manufacturing sector in supplying international markets and attracting foreign investments. He highlighted the government's priority to facilitate investments, expansions, and trade from Egypt.
Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem noted that expansions by established manufacturers like Unilever represent a significant source of industrial growth, aligning with the government's local production mandate. He added that the new production line brings additional capacity, advanced manufacturing technology, and opportunities for Egyptian workers to develop their expertise.
Giza Governor Ahmed El Ansary stated that the expansion supports the investment environment, creates employment opportunities, and strengthens Giza's position as an industrial destination. He affirmed the governorate's commitment to cooperating with relevant ministries to remove obstacles facing investors.
Unilever Mashreq was established in Egypt in 2001 and currently operates three factories in the country, employing over 900 people. Egypt serves as Unilever's regional headquarters for a market covering over 300m consumers across North Africa, the Levant, and Iraq. The MPC Factory spans 22,000 square meters, manufacturing Personal Care, Beauty, and Home Care categories.
The factory sources around 80% of its manufacturing materials locally and integrates sustainability measures, including reusable packaging, wastewater treatment technology, and fully recyclable plastic packaging. Unilever exports over half of its total production in Egypt to over 35 countries across four continents, with plans to continue investing in capabilities that allow Egypt to play a key role in Unilever's global supply network.
