The United Arab Emirates has expanded its entry visa programme to include nationals from six new countries, including Kenya and South Africa. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) announced the expansion, describing it as part of a broader effort to make the UAE's entry and residence system more accommodating for international travellers. Eligible countries now include Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, The Philippines, Kenya, and South Africa.
However, a passport from one of these countries alone does not guarantee access. Applicants, including any accompanying family members, must also hold a valid residence permit from one of nine approved countries: The United States of America, a European Union member state, The United Kingdom, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. The UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the move is intended to deepen bilateral relations and encourage greater humanitarian, economic, and cultural engagement with partner nations.
The two visa categories, 14-day and 60-day, carry distinct conditions and price points. As of October 28, 2026, the fees are equivalent to the following amounts: 14-day visa: AED 100, equivalent to approximately $27.23 USD or GHS 410.00. This visa can be extended once during the holder's stay. The 60-day visa costs AED 250, equivalent to approximately $68.07 USD or GHS 1,025.00.
The 60-day visa is issued as a single-entry permit and cannot be extended. In both cases, travellers must leave the UAE before their authorised stay ends. Anyone who remains beyond the permitted period will be charged a fine of AED 50 for every additional day of overstay. The ICP noted that these changes are aligned with current global travel and tourism trends.
The UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the move is intended to position the UAE as a leading destination for tourists, business visitors, and skilled professionals from a wider range of countries. Previously, only Indian nationals could access this visa category. The update now extends eligibility to nationals of six new countries.
The ICP noted that these changes are aligned with current global travel and tourism trends. The release of these new visa categories is part of the UAE’s commitment to ensure transparency and accountability.
The United Arab Emirates has made efforts to increase its appeal to international visitors. A new report by World Salaries.com published data on the salaries of soldiers in the UAE Army, which is part of the UAE’s commitment to ensure transparency and accountability, and aimed at attracting personnel who may intend to enlist.
