The Union for the Mediterranean (UpM) has announced the financing of two projects aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs and strengthening their participation in digital commerce in Tunisia. These projects are part of a program to promote digital transformation and access to online markets. The initiative is backed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
The first project, "We Train," has been granted a subsidy of 299,233 euros over 12 months. It aims to enhance the digital, technical, and managerial skills of women entrepreneurs and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) led by women in Tunisia and four other Mediterranean countries. The project also seeks to promote the use of e-commerce to develop the activities of beneficiaries and establish a Mediterranean network to foster cooperation, exchange of experiences, and mentorship among women-led businesses.
The second project, "E-Fair," has received a subsidy of 300,000 euros for a duration of 15 months. It targets MSMEs led by women, cooperatives, and social and solidarity economy enterprises in Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, and Palestine. The goal is to improve their digital capacities, facilitating access to e-commerce and new markets. The project also plans to strengthen the capacities of business support organizations and civil society actors, as well as networking with digital platforms, fair trade networks, and investors.
In total, the UpM has announced the financing of four projects, totaling over 1.06 million euros, in five southern Mediterranean countries. This initiative demonstrates the commitment of international organizations to supporting women's economic empowerment in the region. The projects will contribute to promoting digitalization and entrepreneurship among women, which is essential for sustainable economic growth.
The projects "We Train" and "E-Fair" are expected to have a positive impact on the economic and social situation of women entrepreneurs in Tunisia and other beneficiary countries. By improving their digital skills and access to online markets, women-led businesses will be better equipped to compete and grow in the digital economy. This, in turn, will help to reduce the gender gap in entrepreneurship and promote more inclusive economic development.
The financing of these projects is a result of the collaboration between the UpM and its partners, including the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation. This cooperation highlights the importance of partnerships in achieving development goals, particularly in promoting women's economic empowerment.
The implementation of "We Train" and "E-Fair" will be closely monitored, and their impact will be evaluated to ensure that they meet their objectives. The success of these projects will depend on the effective collaboration between all stakeholders, including women entrepreneurs, business support organizations, and government agencies.
