On August 27, a ceremony was held in Yaoundé to mark the installation of two new general officers in Cameroon's national gendarmerie. General Elokobi Daniel Njock and General Pierre Louba Zal took charge as Inspector General and Director Central of Coordination, respectively. The event was presided over by Secretary of State for Defense, Galax Etoga, on behalf of Minister Delegate to the Presidency, Joseph Beti Assomo.
The two new officers were promoted following decrees signed by President Paul Biya on July 15. General Njock, with 49 years of experience, is a graduate of the Inter-Armed Forces Military School (EMIA) and holds several military diplomas, including criminology and investigation techniques. He previously served as Director Central of Coordination in the gendarmerie. General Zal, a product of EMIA's class of 1984, has extensive experience in terrain operations.
During the ceremony, Galax Etoga praised the two officers, describing them as "highly experienced and skilled leaders" whose promotion reflects their qualities as commanders, professional abilities, and dedication to the state. Etoga outlined the expectations for the new roles, emphasizing the need for objective analysis and reporting on the gendarmerie's performance.
As Inspector General, General Njock will oversee control and evaluation of the gendarmerie's commands, formations, units, and services. Etoga stressed the importance of impartial assessments, stating, "I expect you, General, to provide precise and objective reports on how the gendarmerie is fulfilling its missions and evaluating its performance."
General Zal's appointment as Director Central of Coordination will involve coordinating and executing key tasks within the gendarmerie. With his background in terrain operations, he is expected to bring valuable expertise to the role. The two officers face significant responsibilities in their new positions, which will require strong leadership and strategic vision.
The promotions and appointments reflect the ongoing efforts to strengthen and modernize Cameroon's security forces. The new officers will play critical roles in shaping the gendarmerie's strategies and operations. Their experience and skills are expected to enhance the effectiveness of the gendarmerie in maintaining security and stability in the region.
The installation ceremony marked a significant milestone in the careers of General Njock and General Zal. As they take on their new roles, they will be expected to build on their past experiences and work collaboratively with other security agencies to address emerging challenges in Cameroon.
