Tunisian President Kais Saied met with Ali Abbas, head of the National Commission for Judicial Reconciliation, at the Carthage Palace on Monday. During the meeting, President Saied emphasized that it is the right of the Tunisian people to recover their assets, which were accumulated through their sacrifices. He stressed that no amount of money will be spared or forgiven, and that the people's rights will not be waived, regardless of time passing.

President Saied highlighted that the doors remain open for those who have come to their senses, but those who rely on time limits or attempts to bury the issues through forgetfulness must understand that the people's rights do not expire. He emphasized that the rights of the Tunisian people, whether assets are within or outside the country, will not be erased. The President stated that what is right will always be right, and what is wrong will always be wrong, no matter how much time passes.

The President reviewed the work of the National Commission for Judicial Reconciliation during the recent period, particularly after the issuance of Decree No. 2 of 2026, dated September 30, 2026. The decree amends Decree No. 13 of 2022, dated March 20, 2022, related to judicial reconciliation and the use of its proceeds. President Saied noted that the initiative faced attempts to abort and disrupt its progress but that the determination to recover the Tunisian people's assets in full led to the issuance of the first decree.

President Saied explained that the adoption of some flexibility in reconciliation procedures at the commission level, before referring files to the National Security Council, does not imply abandoning principles and constants or renouncing the rights of the Tunisian people. He stated that flexibility should be a means to facilitate procedures and accelerate file processing, not an entry point for leniency or deviation from set goals.

The President emphasized the need to reassure the Tunisian people, achieve their legitimate aspirations, and restore confidence in the ability to recover their assets and preserve their rights. He expressed the need to provide an opportunity for those who made mistakes to review their positions and return to the path of right and justice, away from all forms of extortion, bargaining, manipulation, or procrastination.

President Saied's statements come as part of his ongoing efforts to recover national assets and restore the rights of the Tunisian people. The President has been resolute in his stance on recovering assets accumulated through corrupt means and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. His efforts aim to promote transparency and accountability in Tunisia.
