Tunisian Minister of Equipment and Housing Salah Zouari has launched a major infrastructure project in Medenine, giving the green light to the construction of a 21.2 km highway around the city of Jerba. The project, which is expected to cost around 112 million dinars, aims to improve traffic flow in the city and provide a solution to congestion caused by trucks. The highway will have two lanes in each direction and will be equipped with safety features, intersections, and public lighting.

The minister emphasized that the project is a priority for the government, as it will provide a significant boost to the city's infrastructure and economy. He also noted that the land acquisition process for the project is progressing rapidly, allowing the contractor to begin work on site. The project is expected to be completed within 30 months, with the contractor working to meet the deadline.

In addition to the highway project, the minister also inspected the renovation of the Roman Road, which is 80% complete. The project involves upgrading the road and bridge, as well as installing public lighting and safety features. The minister announced that part of the road will be opened to traffic soon, with the remaining work to be completed in the first half of 2027.

The minister also discussed plans to upgrade the ferry service in Jerba, which is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Equipment and Housing. He announced that two new ferries will be acquired, each with a capacity of 40 cars, to support the existing fleet. The tender for the new ferries will be launched soon, with the aim of completing the acquisition by the end of 2026.

On the sidelines of his visit, the minister also launched several industrial projects in Jerba, including a kitchen equipment manufacturing unit that will export its products to Europe. The unit, which has invested around 2 million dinars, is expected to create 110 jobs. The minister also inaugurated a new unit for producing traditional sweets, which will have an initial production capacity of 10 tons per day.

The minister's visit to Medenine also included the launch of a project to promote and transform marine products, particularly blue crab, in the Bougrara area. The project, which has invested 6 million dinars, currently employs 60 people and is expected to create up to 300 jobs. The minister was in Medenine to attend the closing ceremony of the third edition of the Investment Days in Medenine.

The Investment Days in Medenine, which took place under the theme "Medenine, a logistics platform and driver of economic development", aimed to promote investment opportunities in the region and boost its economic development.
