Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti participated in the 50th ministerial meeting of G77+China in New York on Friday. The meeting was held under the theme "Global South and the Future of Multilateralism". Nafti highlighted the role of G77+China in defending common interests of Global South countries and promoting their voice within the United Nations and international forums.
During his intervention, Nafti emphasized Tunisia's commitment to multilateralism and achieving sustainable development goals. He stressed the close link between sustainable development and achieving international peace and security. The minister also recalled the centrality of the Palestinian issue and Tunisia's support for the Palestinian people's right to regain their legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent state.
Nafti pointed to the unprecedented crisis facing the multilateral system and the need for its reform to make it more representative of Global South countries. He called for reforming the global financial system to alleviate debt burden, facilitate access to financing, and accelerate the achievement of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development goals.
The minister stressed the importance of international solidarity and enhancing cooperation among Global South countries to build a more equitable international system. He emphasized that a common future cannot be achieved without the active participation of Global South countries in international decision-making processes.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Nafti met with Ivorian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nialy Kaba. They discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and elevate it to the level of available potential between the two countries. The two ministers emphasized the importance of giving a new impetus to economic, commercial, and investment cooperation.
Nafti and Kaba also discussed the need to expand cooperation to promising areas of common interest, such as energy and communication technologies. They agreed to continue working to activate bilateral cooperation mechanisms and enhance consultation and coordination between the two countries.
The two ministers also emphasized their commitment to taking care of their respective communities residing on their territories, within the framework of mutual respect and respect for each country's laws. They agreed to continue exchanging support within regional and international forums to strengthen friendly relations and cooperation between Tunisia and Côte d'Ivoire.
