The Governor of Gabès, Radouane Nsaybi, recently inspected the progress of the Gabès Valley development project, which has a total budget of approximately 50 million dinars. The project includes several key components, such as the construction of two bridges on the Corniche and a Parisian-style street. The project's goal is to enhance the city's infrastructure and mitigate environmental concerns in the region.
During the site visit, Nsaybi was accompanied by the General Director of Urban Water Management, Shukri Al-Khouli. They discussed potential interventions to improve the environmental situation along the Gabès Valley, particularly in the area overlooking the sea. A health path will be created in collaboration with the Gabès municipality to address these concerns.
The project also involves the renovation of the city's water infrastructure. The authorities inspected the condition of the country's canal, with the Urban Water Management administration pledging to renovate it after technical services transfer the existing networks to a new location.
Further developments are planned for the project, with a second phase expected to commence in the first quarter of 2027. This phase is estimated to cost 55 million dinars and will involve the development of the Gabès Valley tributaries, including the Ashour and Al-Qalam valleys, as well as a section of the old Gabès Valley.
The second phase of the project will also involve excavating a section of the valley to a depth of 6 meters, facing the sea. This aims to improve the area's drainage and mitigate flood risks. The authorities are expected to publish a call for tenders for the project's second phase soon.
The development project in Gabès is part of a broader effort to enhance infrastructure and services in southern Tunisia. Other initiatives, such as the Sustainable Investment and Financial Inclusion Days, were recently launched in the region, highlighting the government's commitment to promoting economic growth and social development.
The project is expected to have a positive impact on the local community, improving living conditions and providing new opportunities for residents. The authorities will continue to monitor the project's progress, ensuring its timely completion and effectiveness in addressing the region's challenges.
