The Tunisian National Real Estate Company for Social Housing (CNR) has announced plans to launch two rent-to-own housing projects in Sousse province in 2027. The projects, which are part of the government's rent-to-own program, aim to provide affordable housing for low- and middle-income citizens. The first project, located in the Olympic neighborhood of Sousse, will be built on a plot of land owned by the CNR.

The second project will be located in the town of Nafiouna and will be built on a state-owned plot of land. Bids for the first project will be invited in the first quarter of 2027, while bids for the second project will be invited in the third quarter of 2027. The rent-to-own program is part of the government's efforts to provide affordable housing for Tunisians.

The CNR's General Director, Basma Besta, announced the plans during a meeting with local officials to discuss the implementation of housing projects in Sousse. She noted that the 2026 rent-to-own program is currently under construction, with work having started on 14 collective housing units in the Hachad neighborhood of Sousse on August 5, 2026.

The Sousse governor, Sofien Tannouri, emphasized the importance of supporting the implementation of the rent-to-own program to provide affordable housing for low- and middle-income citizens. He called for greater coordination between local authorities and stakeholders to overcome obstacles and ensure the successful implementation of the program.

The Tunisian government has set ambitious targets for the rent-to-own program, with plans to build 1,200 units in 11 governorates at a cost of around 200 million dinars. The program aims to provide affordable housing for low- and middle-income citizens, with estimated monthly rents ranging from 650 to 800 dinars.

The government has also announced plans to launch an online platform for citizens to register for social housing under the rent-to-own program. The platform is expected to be operational by the end of 2026. Citizens can currently access information on the program's eligibility criteria through the government's website.

The launch of the rent-to-own housing projects in Sousse is part of the government's efforts to address the country's housing shortage and provide affordable housing for Tunisians. The program is expected to benefit low- and middle-income citizens and help to promote social inclusion and economic development.
