Tunisia's National Tree Day was celebrated in the city of Gabes on Sunday, November 8, with a large-scale planting effort along the city's corniche. The event was attended by local authorities, including Governor of Gabes Radwan Nasibi, and numerous citizens. The initiative, organized by the Regional Directorate of Agricultural Development, aims to create a healthy path along the city's corniche, stretching from the Wadi Gabes bridge to the corniche.

The planting effort saw the planting of 300 palm and ornamental tree seedlings, carefully selected to suit the local environmental conditions and requirements of the planned healthy path. The initiative is part of a comprehensive program developed in collaboration with the Gabes municipality, local authorities, and several private sector entities. The program seeks to improve the urban environment and provide green spaces for citizens.

The National Tree Day celebration also provided an opportunity to review the progress of reforestation efforts in the region and assess the success of planting operations across various sectors. According to data from the Forestry Department, 98 hectares were reforested during the previous season, with a success rate of 78%. Municipalities planted 3,956 trees, achieving a success rate of around 56%.

In addition to municipal efforts, public institutions planted 26,693 trees, with a success rate of 43%, while private individuals contributed to the planting of 73,320 trees, with a success rate of 45%. To mark National Tree Day, the Forestry Department provided 450,000 forest and pastoral seedlings and ornamental trees, produced at five nurseries in the region.

The regional initiatives reflect the Gabes authorities' commitment to enhancing green cover and expanding green spaces, while supporting environmental projects that improve the urban environment and provide healthy recreational spaces for citizens. The efforts align with the country's push towards sustainable development and conservation of natural resources.

The celebration of National Tree Day in Gabes is part of a broader national effort to promote environmental conservation and sustainability. Similar events were held in other parts of the country, including the city of Tataouine, where a campaign was launched to plant trees under the slogan "A tree today, a forest tomorrow".

The authorities' focus on reforestation and environmental conservation is expected to have a positive impact on the region's ecosystem and contribute to the country's efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change. The success of these initiatives will depend on continued collaboration between authorities, citizens, and private sector entities.
