The National Initiative for Drug Abuse Prevention, under the slogan "Say No to Drugs," was held at Mustapha Khairif middle school in Tozeur, as part of the mobile psychological health caravans under the slogan "Your Health First." The event was organized by the Regional Delegation for Women's Affairs and Family, in partnership with the Regional Delegation of the National Family and Social Development Agency, and other structures and organizations.
The awareness day was divided into three spaces that attracted a number of students and parents. The first space provided psychological counseling, presented by specialists from the "Friend of Youth" space, affiliated with the Regional Delegation for Family and Social Development. The second space provided awareness and education, managed by the head of the Women's and Family Affairs Office and the regional supervisor of school medicine.
The third space included interactive activities with young people, managed by the Tozeur Mobile Children's Club. The head of the Women's and Family Affairs Office at the Regional Delegation, Wafa Maammar, stated that the activity of this caravan is specifically directed at young people to raise their awareness before falling into addiction, in partnership with the Regional Delegation for Education and the Regional Delegation for Family and Social Development.
Maammar added that, in addition to direct dialogue with students, a set of awareness-raising messages, brochures, and other materials were provided to emphasize the importance of filling leisure time with volunteer or sports activities, and participating in national organizations, youth clubs, and institutions. The psychological specialist at the "Friend of Youth" space, Lilia Mubarki, listened to students to identify the motives of addiction.
Mubarki aimed to help them avoid falling into addiction and, in case of drug addiction, assist them in getting out of the experience. She indicated that the solutions provided are mainly directed at parents by integrating their children into cultural, sports, and other activities, and opening spaces for dialogue with children and young people at home and in educational institutions.
The students interacted with the various activities provided and presented their ideas for preventing drug use, expressing their readiness to be ambassadors for the rest of the young people and students. The event is part of a broader effort to address the issue of drug addiction in the region, which has become increasingly prevalent.
