Tunisia's Minister of Industry, Salah Zwari, participated in the 5th Egypt Mining Forum, held in Cairo from September 28 to 29. The forum, organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, brought together over 500 high-level officials, ministers, and business leaders from 50 countries. During a panel discussion on "Linking Mineral Development to Industrial Growth," Minister Zwari emphasized Tunisia's commitment to achieving regional integration and strengthening local and shared value chains. He highlighted the importance of supporting high-value-added industries, reducing reliance on imported inputs, and creating new export opportunities. The discussion was attended by Egyptian Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, Nigerian Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Oladinli Henry Alakali, and other prominent business leaders.
Minister Zwari stressed the significance of the mining sector in Tunisia, which is a key pillar of the national economy. He showcased the country's diverse mineral wealth, including lead, zinc, iron, salts, and potash. Zwari also praised long-standing trade relations with neighboring countries, particularly in the supply of raw materials for fertilizer production, such as sulfur and ammonia.
The Minister outlined Tunisia's efforts to regain its global position in the phosphate sector by developing mining research and exploration, encouraging private investment, and providing digital geological data. He also emphasized the importance of promoting promising mining sites and enhancing cooperation between the public and private sectors.
Zwari highlighted the need for African and Arab countries to share expertise and modernize mining technology to achieve inclusive economic growth. The forum provided a platform for over 100 institutions to showcase the latest technologies and solutions in the mining sector, attracting over 6,000 visitors from the public and private sectors.
The event was held under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, demonstrating the country's commitment to promoting investment and cooperation in the mining sector.
