The Kasserine region in Tunisia has launched its new training year with a total capacity of approximately 1200 trainees across different centers. As of now, around 750 trainees are registered, according to Mohamed Arami, the Regional Director of Employment and Vocational Training. The training year began on September 17, and two sessions, in September and November, have been planned, with 735 training places available.
The region has five vocational training centers, including the Rural Girl Center in Sbeitla, the Vocational Training Center in Sbeitla, and three centers in Kasserine city and one in Btalla. These institutions offer 33 specialties, including five at the professional technical level, 13 at the skill certificate level, and 15 at the professional competence certificate level.
Arami stated that the Tunisian Agency for Vocational Training website remains open for registration in specialties with a shortage of applicants. He also mentioned that several new specialties have been introduced this year, including a high-level technical qualification in industrial maintenance at the Kasserine Vocational Training Center. This specialty is being offered for the first time in the region.
The new specialty in industrial maintenance is open to those with a baccalaureate or professional technical qualification and will be accessed through a competitive exam organized by the Tunisian Agency for Vocational Training. The first training session for this specialty will take place in November. Additionally, a new specialty in IT support has been introduced, with 20 trainees initially planned and 66 registered so far.
Arami emphasized that the centers are working to introduce new specialties that meet the needs of the job market and the region's specifics. However, he noted that the response to textile sector specialties remains weak due to difficulties faced by active institutions in the sector. The centers have prepared for the new training year by providing accommodation and meals for those in need and completing necessary maintenance work.
The offered specialties in the region's centers are considered a priority and in demand in the job market. Trainees whose family income does not exceed 10,000 dinars are eligible for a monthly grant provided directly by the vocational training centers. This aims to support those in need and encourage them to pursue vocational training.
The centers are coordinating with relevant structures to ensure that the introduced specialties meet job market requirements. With a focus on quality and relevance, the region aims to equip trainees with the necessary skills to integrate into the workforce effectively.
