The "Baja 2" factory, owned by German company Kromberg & Schubert, was opened on October 1, 2026, in the Bajah industrial zone. The facility was built on a 60,000 square meter site at a total cost of 270 million dinars, including construction and equipment. The factory is expected to create 7,500 new jobs by 2029, bringing the total workforce of the company's two Bajah factories to 14,700.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, including the head of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy's office, Afaf Chachai Tayari, Bajah Governor Ahmed Ben Kharat, German Ambassador to Tunisia Elisabeth Wulbars, and Samir Majoul, head of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Traditional Industries. The new factory is one of the largest in Tunisia and part of Kromberg & Schubert's global operations.

According to Wissam Badri, general manager of the Kromberg & Schubert factory in Bajah, the "Baja 2" factory currently employs 2,600 workers, with plans to increase this number to 3,500 by 2027 and 6,000 by 2028. The company expects to complete its investments in the factory at a cost of around 300 million dinars. The new facility will help meet the growing demands of the company's clients and reinforce confidence in Tunisia's capabilities.

Afaf Chachai Tayari emphasized that the expansion of Kromberg & Schubert's operations in Tunisia demonstrates the country's potential as a hub for development and investment, particularly in the automotive sector. She noted that Tunisia is home to over 300 companies operating in the automotive industry, employing more than 120,000 workers. Tayari stressed the importance of encouraging engineers and skilled workers to join the sector and adapt to its evolving needs.

The Tunisian government aims to establish the country as a global hub for electronic industries and car component manufacturing by promoting investment in this sector. Fathi Sahlawi, head of industrial industries at the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, said the expansion of Kromberg & Schubert's operations will support this goal and enhance Tunisia's position in the global automotive industry.

She noted that around 300 German companies are currently operating in Tunisia, employing approximately 100,000 people. Wulbars emphasized the significance of the two countries' 70-year bilateral relationship.

The opening of the "Baja 2" factory is a significant boost to Tunisia's automotive sector, which is a key contributor to the country's economy.
