Tunisia is taking part in a study tour on digital solutions and innovative approaches to expanding social insurance coverage to workers in the informal sector, which began in Brazil on September 22, 2026, and will continue until September 30, 2026. The study tour is organized by the German Development Cooperation Agency in Tunisia.
Representatives from Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco are participating in the program, which includes a knowledge-sharing exchange in Brazil and Uruguay. The goal is to explore practical approaches to expanding social insurance coverage to workers in the informal economy. The first part of the study tour in Brazil focuses on the country's experience with digital solutions to improve access to social protection and social insurance.
The study tour also explores digital platforms, interoperability, and innovative approaches to improve access and matching, as well as lessons learned on reducing administrative barriers to formal sector integration and expanding social insurance coverage. The exchange is based on experiences from Latin America, where digitalization and simplified contribution mechanisms have made formal systems more accessible to workers.
The German Development Cooperation Agency is implementing the "Social Protection for Women in the Middle East and North Africa" project in Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco, with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The project aims to learn from successful experiences, analyze challenges and risks, and discuss potential adaptations to different contexts.
