Tunisia's electronics industry is set to receive a boost with the adoption of three key recommendations by the country's steering committee. The committee, which met at the headquarters of the Industrial Promotion and Innovation Agency (APII), aims to modernize the national industrial fabric and attract investments in high-value-added activities. The recommendations are part of a study focused on the electronics sector, which seeks to establish Tunisia as a competitive hub for designing, manufacturing, and integrating electronic systems for European and African markets.

The study is aligned with Tunisia's 2035 Industrial and Innovation Strategy, which is led by the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy. The project is also part of a program titled "Partnerships for Employment and Support for SMEs," implemented by the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy. The program is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the Special Initiative "Training and Employment."

The steering committee's meeting brought together various public and private sector stakeholders, including the General Directorate of Manufacturing Industries (DGIM), the Center for Studies and Research in Telecommunications (CERT), and the Technical Center for Mechanical and Electrical Industries (CETIME). Other participants included the INNOV ALLIANCE TECH agency, the Tunisian Automotive Association (TAA), and the GIZ Mécatronique pole.

The study aims to create jobs and enhance Tunisia's position as a competitive hub in the electronics sector. It builds on a previous study on promising specialties conducted by the APII and GIZ between 2023 and 2025. The project's next steps will involve the development of five preparatory occupational profiles.

The electronics sector is seen as a key area for growth and investment in Tunisia. The country's strategic location and existing infrastructure make it an attractive destination for investors looking to access European and African markets. The government's efforts to modernize the industrial sector and promote innovation are expected to contribute to the country's economic development.

The adoption of the recommendations marks an important milestone in the development of Tunisia's electronics industry. The steering committee's efforts to bring together public and private sector stakeholders have facilitated a collaborative approach to addressing the sector's challenges and opportunities. The project's success will depend on the effective implementation of the recommendations and the continued engagement of stakeholders.

The development of the electronics sector is expected to have a positive impact on Tunisia's economy and employment landscape. The creation of jobs and the attraction of investments in high-value-added activities will contribute to the country's economic growth and competitiveness. The project's outcomes will be closely watched by stakeholders in the industry and the government.
