US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, stated on Saturday that President Donald Trump has not yet made a decision regarding military action against Iran. This comes after Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, said there were no plans for talks with the US. Meanwhile, Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has ordered the military to be prepared to respond to any threats without geographical constraints.
According to Rubio, there is no specific timeline for talks led by Qatar aimed at resolving hostilities between the US and Iran. Reuters reported earlier that Iranian officials met with Qatari mediators in Doha. In response to Rubio's statement, Iranian security official, Mohsen Rezaei, said the tone had changed completely, reflecting the victory of the Iranian people.
Rezaei told Iranian television that Iran is pursuing diplomatic channels seriously but will not give up the rights of the Iranian people. He added that the war must end permanently and no country should dare to attack Iran again. Rezaei also mentioned that Tehran is discussing whether to maintain its long-term ban on nuclear weapons if hostilities resume.
Ali Khamenei met with top military leaders and emphasized the need for readiness to face enemies with strength and determination. He ordered the military to update its list of military targets, including US and Israeli assets, and to be prepared to respond to any threats without geographical constraints. This meeting was the first of its kind to be announced between Khamenei and top military leaders.
Iranian Armed Forces General Staff Chief, Ali Abdollahi, echoed Khamenei's statements, saying Iran will respond to enemies with great force and intensity without geographical constraints. He also mentioned that new targets have been added to the list of enemy targets. Meanwhile, the Iranian military warned that any new US attack would only lead to a wider war.
Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated on Saturday that there are currently no plans for meetings with US officials, and any speculation to the contrary is mere media assumption. He added that Iran has received a message from US Vice President, JD Vance, and is reviewing it. Araghchi emphasized that Iran's demands are clear, and consultations are ongoing through mediators.
Diplomatic efforts are underway to prevent a renewed conflict, with Qatari and Pakistani mediators involved in talks between Iranian and US officials. However, these talks have not yet led to a permanent agreement. Egyptian Foreign Minister, Bader Abdelatty, expressed concern about the potential escalation of the conflict, saying it would lead to more destruction and have serious repercussions.
