The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has defended its operatives following a recent incident at Sabo Market in Sagamu. On September 28, 2026, at about 1:30 p.m., TRACE operatives from the Sagamu Divisional Command were carrying out routine traffic enforcement when a motorcycle rider attempted to evade arrest. The rider, who was not wearing a mandatory crash helmet, sped off dangerously, causing him and his passenger to fall and injure the passenger.
TRACE reported that the motorcycle rider's excessive speed and reckless manoeuvre led to the crash, leaving the passenger with minor injuries. Chief Traffic Assistant Fabunmi Olubanji and Chief Traffic Assistant Sadeko Oluwatobi immediately responded, rescued the injured passenger, and arranged for her evacuation to Divine Hospital, Sabo. The passenger received medical attention and was treated for minor bruises.
The Head of Operations, Officer Osilesi Ayodeji, was alerted and arrived at the scene, but the motorcycle rider had reportedly fled, abandoning the injured passenger. TRACE disclosed that the passenger's family later expressed appreciation for the operatives' prompt intervention, which prevented the situation from worsening.
Cmdr. Nike Shittu, the Sagamu Divisional Commander, commended the operatives' professionalism and quick response in ensuring the injured passenger received immediate medical care. However, she condemned the motorcycle rider's conduct, accusing him of causing the crash through reckless riding and abandoning the passenger at the scene.
Shittu advised the public, particularly motorcycle passengers, to exercise caution when hiring commercial motorcycle operators and to patronise only responsible riders who comply with traffic regulations. She emphasised the importance of rider responsibility and public vigilance.
TRACE Public Relations Officer, Cmdr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, questioned the rider's decision to flee the scene, suggesting an attempt to evade responsibility after allegedly committing a traffic offence. Akinbiyi urged passengers to remain vigilant when using commercial motorcycles, warning that unprofessional conduct by some operators poses significant safety risks.
The TRACE spokesman praised the Sagamu Division operatives for maintaining professionalism despite public reactions at the scene, saying they remained focused on saving the injured passenger and ensuring prompt medical attention. TRACE reiterated its commitment to enforcing traffic regulations professionally while prioritising the safety and welfare of all road users.
