The governments of Togo and China have joined forces to improve access to clean water in rural areas. As part of the "Village Hydraulics Project", 305 new boreholes equipped with human-powered pumps have been constructed in the Plateaux region. The project was officially handed over to the Togolese government on September 18, 2026, in a ceremony presided over by Minister Delegate for Water and Sanitation, Séna Alipui, and Chinese Ambassador to Togo, Wang Min.
The project aims to address the challenges faced by rural communities in accessing clean water. The 305 boreholes are spread across 285 villages, covering all 12 prefectures of the Plateaux region.
