Barrister Chioma Nweze, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagements, South-East, has commended President Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Works for its efforts in connecting communities across Nigeria's regions through road constructions. According to Nweze, the projects are generating employment opportunities and opening up communities for increased economic activities. The projects align with the Federal Government's infrastructure and economic development objectives.
Nweze, who accompanied Minister of Works, Sen David Umahi, on an inspection of the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Nasarawa-Abuja highway project, noted that the ongoing construction would improve access to healthcare, markets, and economic centers, particularly for rural communities. The project aims to reconnect communities across the Southeast and adjoining states while reviving historical trade routes. Improved connectivity would facilitate the movement of people, agricultural produce, and other goods.
The highway project, according to Nweze, would have a significant impact on the lives of people in the region. She said, "I'm amazed that every road, every place is being opened up. This will give our women the opportunity of getting to hospital without giving birth on the road. It will make our farmers able to bring their food to town to sell." The project is one of the landmark projects being executed by the Federal Government.
Nweze cited the ongoing bridge project linking Afikpo in Ebonyi State with communities in Cross River State as another significant project. She noted that the South-East has witnessed unprecedented federal presence under the Tinubu administration, with several developmental projects currently ongoing in the region. These projects have brought a sense of inclusion to the people.
According to Nweze, the current government has changed the narrative through road construction, bridge projects, solar-powered street lighting, and educational support initiatives. During previous administrations, the region suffered neglect in terms of federal infrastructure. However, the current government has made significant efforts to address this.
Nweze called on residents of the region to massively support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections to enable him to complete ongoing infrastructure projects across the South-East. She appealed to women across the region to support the Tinubu administration, particularly in view of its interventions and programs targeted at women.
Nweze expressed confidence that the people of the South-East would come out in masse to vote for President Tinubu in the next general election. She commended President Tinubu and the Works Ministry for the simultaneous execution of major road projects across the Southeast, urging residents to acknowledge the developmental impact of the infrastructure program.
